Joan Vincent: The Audacious Miss

In her brother’s breeches Miss Audacia Aderly was far too improper for words–and for her own good!

Hadn’t she already been mistaken for a boy by none other than Lord Greydon, the dashing Roland himself? It was high time for Audacia to be packed off to London to stay with her godmother and learn the ways of the ton. The thought of Audacia learning to become a lady was enough to bring Roland along for a laugh, but all too soon the delicious minx was abuzz with beaux–and up to her pretty neck in scandal. Was it too late to be a proper London lady and win the heart of the one she loved?

Its time the unlikely named Audacia learned a lesson in deportment.  Or at least that is what her father comes to understand, after yet another scrape in her brothers borrowed breeches.  Saved from drowning by some Pink of the Ton, Audacia has finally done something serious enough to pull her tinkering inventor father from his study and force him to act.

Audacia is sent to an old friend of her now departed mothers to be sponsored for a Season, and hopefully learn to tame her wild ways.  Unfortunately, Lady and Lord Darby have fallen from grace.  Audacia’s dowry, however, might be just the thing to pull them from under the hatches if she can be compelled to marry their scapegrace son.

Audacia’s rescuer, Lord Greydon, decides to descend on Town to keep an eye out for her knowing that the prodigal Darby is a good-for-nothing.

To make matters worse, Audacia’s younger brother has fallen under the spell of Darby, a regular Capt. Sharp.

The events unfold in this traditional Regency fairly formulaically, with little deviation from the standard.  The characters are engaging and the action pleasing enough to entertain.

Its a quick read, dashing from scrape to scrape on the heels of Audacia and a cast of characters familiar to the Reg. Rom devotee.  Nothing mind blowing about the plot or characters, but comfortably amusing and a fine reward at the end.

5 Stars 5 out of 6 Likeable characters propel this otherwise formulaic traditional Reg. Rom
