Rags to riches, something from nothing, junk to funk…its one of my favorite themes both in literature and in life. It also happens to make a pretty marvelous plot structure for a Reg Rom.
Here are ten of my favorite Cinderella like Reg Roms in no particular order.
1. Candace Camp: The Marriage Wager A beautiful and true love story that reminds us of what hist-ro is really about with a Cinderella-esque economizing spinster of a heroine. Some steamy action.
2. Kieran Kramer: If You Give a Girl a Viscount True to the Cinderella story…including stepmom and sisters.
3. Brenda Hiatt: Gabriella Straightforward cotton candy Reg Rom with classic Pygmalion/Pride and Prejudice plot. Enjoyable, quick read that is clean.
4. Julia Quinn: An Offer From A Gentleman Several of the Bridgerton series have a Cinderella-like plot, but this one is the closest…ball included!
5. Eloisa James: A Kiss at Midnight Another closely modelled Cinderella story, James’ talent sparkles in this sweet romance with a twist.
6. Laura Lee Guhrke: Secret Desires of a Gentleman A familiar Sabrina story about two brothers and the woman caught in the middle.
7. Alexandra Benedict: Too Scandalous To Wed A twist on the tale, with a heroine vamping it up and a godmother in the form of an old light skirt. Sexy with fun and different characters.
8. Christina Dodd: Rules of Engagement There is a make under and an ultimate spiritual makeover in this funny book two of a larger series.
9. Jacqueline Diamond: The Forgetful Lady In this funny, PG Reg Rom, the heroine makes herself over…into a better person. Wonderful characters, great action, and sweet romance that really earns its pay off.
10. Georgette Heyer: Arabella The hero becomes fairy godmother in making over the provincial yet striking heroine into an Original. Funny, wonderful romance in the traditional vein by the classic Reg Rom author.
