Regency Advertisements: Zapolya, a Christmas Tale


 

 

Appeared in the November 1817 issue of Ackermann’s Repository. A two part verse play by Samuel Taylor Coleridge, it was Coleridge’s final play.  A reviewer of the 1816 Surrey Theater production wrote it was “”of too serious a cast for the frequenters of this Theatre, and were we not fearful of giving offence we should say too good, at any rate we may be allowed to pronounce it too poetical”.
