Regency Pastimes: Drawing

In the Young Lady’s Book: A Manual of Elegant Recreations, Exercises and Pursuits (1829), drawing is not listed as a separate pastime but is inferred in the chapter on painting.


As evident in the text above, copying would have been a rudimentary way for a young lady to learn the art of drawing.

The New Family Receipt Book (1810) has instructions for making transparent drawing paper:
